South Shields is a coastal town, in North East England, at the mouth of the River Tyne
in South Tyneside. It has pleasant beaches and a busy town centre.
The friendly locals are known as Sand dancers!
Arbeia Roman Fort was built in the AD 160's and was occupied for almost 300 years.
It is sited on the Lawe Top above the mouth of the River Tyne. The Romans used it as a supply
base for Hadrian's Wall and to control the main port of entry to the Roman Empire in Britain.

The site features some reconstructed buildings, excavations and a museum.
