Turbinia was built on the Tyne, it was once the world's fastest vessel.
It is now on display in an impressive indoor gallery at:
Discovery Museum, Blandford Square, Newcastle Upon Tyne. NE1 4JA




Around 1000 ships were built at Palmer's from 1852 until 1933.

Joseph W Reed was born in Northumberland in 1858.
He was well known as an enginering and marine expert.





Eppleton Hall - Paddle Tug
Built at South Shields in 1914 by William Hepple and Company.
Powered by two single cylinder grasshopper steam engines, worked on the River Wear until 1968. Then following extensive renovation she was steamed to San Francisco Maritime Museum.
Overall Length 100 feet (just over 30 metres)
Gross Tonnage 166 tons
