Hadrian's Wall was built on the orders of the Emperor Hadrian
around 122 AD, although he never saw the wall completed. It is estimated to have taken 3.7 million tonnes of stone to build it!
Some of the best remaining sections are in the National Park between Carvoran in the West and
Housesteads Fort.
Hadrian's Wall crosses the country for 73 miles from Solway Firth to Wallsend.
