Durham Miners Gala
The Durham Miners Gala or big meeting as it is also known was started in 1871.

As well as many other attractions Beamish open air museum has a colliery village. The village
has pit cottages & gardens, Board School, Methodist Chapel, drift Mine, steam winder, pithead
buildings, engine shed, powder house and chauldron Waggons.
Visitors can take the short guided walk into the mine. The path is a little uneven
and headroom is low. Hard hats are provided.
