Barnard Castle, North East England

Barnard Castle - Overlooks a crossing point of the River Tees.
It was founded by Guy, Lord of Bailleul in Picardy.
He was given the land by William Rufus. The castle was rebuilt by his nephew
Bernard De Baliol in 1112. The castle remains include parts of the fourteenth century
great hall, a three storeyed keep and the Round Tower. This tower has a splendid view which
inspired Sir Walter Scott when he wrote Rokesby.

town centre which is a pleasant country town.
The Bowes Museum is situated in Barnard Castle, just off the A66.
